Massage Policies

The following policies and procedures are a guide for all clients. With a commitment to providing an excellent experience for clients with consideration for the therapist’s time, the following are in place.  A comprehensive list of protocols practiced at Northern Mandala are also available.

Scope of Practice

Massage Therapy is a profession in which the practitioner uses manual manipulation of soft body tissues  – muscle, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and skin – using varying degrees of pressure and movement to enhance a person’s health and well-being. Your massage therapists will not diagnose or prescribe for medical conditions. The therapist may refer you to a medical doctor for diagnosis or treatment. The services are not intended as an alternative for proper medical attention for specific conditions. Clients should refer to a medical doctor for specific conditions which require treatment.

Pre-Appointment Screening & Online Forms

All clients will be asked to complete a new client health intake, pre-appointment screening or other necessary forms online. These will be emailed to clients prior to session.

  • Those with a fever (100F or higher) within the last 24 hours, with respiratory or flu symptoms, sore throat or shortness of breath will have their appointment rescheduled without penalty. Those in contact with anyone in the last 14 days who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or with coronavirus-type symptoms will have their appointment rescheduled without penalty.
  • If the client has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the next appointment can be scheduled 72 hours after their last quarantine date.

Arrival

Please arrive at your scheduled start time. If late arrival is inevitable, and as the schedule will allow, full or partial service may be accommodated. This is at the therapist’s discretion and only with proper, advanced notification of your late arrival. Original treatment time will be charged. If no notification of cancellation (a no-show appointment) full service price will be billed to the client.

Cancellations & No-Shows

Your therapy time is reserved exclusively for you. Cancellations are requested at least 24 hours in advance unless due to severe inclement weather. NOTE: Those with a fever (100F or higher) within the last 24 hours, with respiratory or flu symptoms, sore throat or shortness of breath will have their appointment rescheduled without penalty. Those in contact with anyone in the last 14 days who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or with coronavirus-type symptoms will have their appointment rescheduled without penalty.

Clients who fail to show for service without notification are considered no-show. Failure to show for service without 24-hour notification (or above mentioned excuse) will result in the full service fee charged to the client. If a client fails to show for two scheduled appointments, it is the therapist’s discretion for whether further appointments will be scheduled.

Informed Consent

All clients will receive an assessment of need, a massage therapy plan tailored to their unique needs and a post-service review of care provided. All clients have the right to complete and current information regarding the practitioner’s assessment and recommended service that is to be provided, including the expected duration of the service to be provided.

Existing and New Medical Conditions

A medical history/intake form will be updated annually. Prior to the update, it is the responsibility of the client to keep the massage therapist informed of any current medical treatment and to provide written permission from the physician, chiropractor, physical therapist, etc. if massage may be continued. The client must also keep the massage therapist informed of any changes in health conditions.

Professional Boundaries

Requests for sexual activity will not be tolerated, will be viewed as solicitation and reported to the proper authorities.  The client will not be rescheduled if this occurs.

Confidentiality

Client records and transactions with the practitioner are confidential, unless release of these records is authorized in writing by the client, or otherwise required by law.

Fees

Full payment for service is expected at time of service. All clients have the right to reasonable notice of changes in services or charges. Changes in services or fees will be posted to the website. Discounts or specials available will also be posted to the website or available upon request at time of service. Clients failing to show for appointment without proper notification (see cancellation policy above) will be billed for the full service.

We do not file with insurance companies. Receipts are available upon request for client to submit to insurance.
